JUNIOR LIFEGUARD PROGRAM

 

 

 

2005 INFORMATION

  

  

Session One - June 20th through July 14th.       Session 1A – 8am – 1pm, Session 1B – 10am – 3pm

Session Two – July 18th through August 11.   Session 2A – 8am – 1pm, Session 2B – 10am – 3pm 

 

 

Each session will be 4 weeks long and run Monday through Thursday.

Each session will offer early morning and late morning classes. 

Early morning classes will be held from 8 AM to 1PM. 

Late morning classes will be held from 10AM to 3PM.

A & AA groups will only be once a day, at the 8 AM class.

 

Returning Junior Lifeguard Applicants

Applicants who participated in the 2004 program DO NOT have to attend a tryout.  All applicants must have a STAMPED PHYSICIANS RELEASE FORM turned in on first day of the session. This form is supplied with the application packet. Junior Lifeguards will not be allowed to participate until this form is turned in. All Physician Release forms must be turned in the first day of the session, please do not mail them in early.

 

**New Junior Lifeguard Applicants**

THIS PROGRAM DOES NOT TEACH CHILDREN HOW TO SWIM. Applications for new participants will only be available at the tryouts. Applicants are taken on a first come first served basis.

All participants must have a STAMPED PHYSICIANS RELEASE FORM turned in on or before the first day of the session. This form is supplied with the application packet. Junior Lifeguards will not be allowed to participate until this form is filed.

 

Applicants to the program must be 9-17 years of age and pass a swimming ability test.  The test consists of:

1) Swimming 100 yards in under 2 minutes, 10 seconds

2) Swimming 10 yards underwater

3) Treading water for 3 minutes.

 

TRYOUTS for the 2005 Junior Lifeguard Program will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2005 from 12:00 noon until 4:00 PM at Santa Clarita Pool.

 

COST:  $250.00 per child per session

 

APPLICATION:  This Application Form is available for printing, and handwritten completion.   

 

Program fee includes:   Red Cross CPR or First Aid certificate, and transportation to special events.

*Uniforms are not included in the fee and may be purchased separately. 

Financial Aid is available to those who qualify.

 

PROGRAM NOTES:

Bags will be available for sale along with other JG merchandise.

 

 


Following are the basic rules for Junior Lifeguards in the Program

 

If any of the rules below are not followed, the participant can be disciplined accordingly and appropriately.

1.     Warned once of the problem by Instructor.

2.     Second warning parent is called by the coordinator.

3.     Third warning can result in temporary or permanent removal from program by the director.

4.     Depending on severity of the problem, the participant can be removed from the program without warnings.

 

RULES:

 

1.            All junior lifeguards must follow the instruction of instructors.

2.            Junior lifeguards must be in uniform and in running shoes, ready by start of the program time. If tardy, we must talk to parent. Third tardy, send junior lifeguard home for the day.

3.            Shirts must be tucked into shorts; long hair tied back; baseball caps must be worn bill forward, boxer short must not be visible.

4.            When returning from an absence, the junior lifeguards must have a written note   from a parent or guardian.

5.            All uniforms and belongings must be labeled with full name. The program is not responsible for lost items.

6.            Junior lifeguards may not leave a designated area without the permission of an instructor.

7.            If injured, the junior lifeguard must report to the instructor IMMEDIATELY.

8.            Unsafe conduct of any kind is prohibited.

9.            Any behavior unbecoming of a junior lifeguard (i.e. abusive or obscene language, un-excused absences, fighting, etc.) could result in the junior lifeguard being dropped from the program without return of fee.

10.        Parents must pick up junior lifeguard no later then 10 minutes past program ending. Unless the program is having a special event causing the pick-up time to be later; in this case, parents must be notified in advance.

11.        Junior lifeguards must have permission slips signed and turned in before attending any field trips

12.        NO junior lifeguard can ride in an instructor vehicle to an event or field trip.

13.        Junior lifeguards are expected to participate in all physical activities!
