Float Tube Derby Recap - September 24, 2016
Dateline-September 24, 2016
14 tubers gathered on this day to compete in the third and final event of the 2016 Friends of Castaic Lake float tube bass derby series. The weather was perfect in the morning but got very windy as the day wore on. Fishing was fairly tough but quite a few nice fish were boated, led by Bryan Howell, who not only won the event going away, but also Angler of the year!
1. Bryan Howell-5 fish, 19.37lbs, also event big fish of 5.95lbs!
2. Vince Chmelsky-3 fish, 10.22lbs.
3. Ryan Sheng-2 fish, 9.24lbs, 2nd big fish of 5.59lbs.
4. Daniel Palmer-4 fish, 9.00 lbs.
5. Garrett Armstrong-1 fish-3rd big fish of 4.91lbs.
Fish were reportedly caught on a variety of baits, ranging from senkos, ikas, dropshotting and splitshotting, but the majority of good fish were taken with reaction baits ripped through the grassbeds.
A great chili dog bbq was then hosted after the event by Pete Carissosa.

Thanks so much to our volunteers on the day, both in Kayaks/boats, and on shore. Also a great thanks to all lake staff that assisted with the event. These events could not be possible without the help of all these great folks. See ya’ll in 2017!
