Float Tube

Castaic Lagoon.
The 6th annual FOCL float tube derby took place on Castaic's famed Lower
Lagoon on April 26th, 2008. A total of 36 tubers came out to search for bass under
calm, clear conditions which changed into strong breezes by the 1PM weigh in.
Taking 1st on this day was the Castaic Bass Club's very own Victor Nardiello
with a limit weighing 11.70lbs, led by the event big fish of 6.70lbs. Victor reported
catching his big fish early on a senko and then got the rest on a drop shot rig. For his
efforts, Victor won a new float tube and $180 in big fish money. Great job Victor!!
Taking second was Bill Van Ness with a limit totaling 9.60lbs. Bill weighed in
a kicker of 2.60 lbs, and with his high finish won the 2nd place prize of a new float tube.
It was reported that Bill was fishing stationary in the strong winds. Way to go Bill!!
Taking 3rd was Jessie Iannacone with four fish totaling 8.8lbs, with a nice kicker
fish of 4.10lbs. For his high finish Jessie received a great selection of merchandise,
including an Abu Garcia reel worth $90, courtesy of Turner's Outdoorsman. Excellent
job Jessie!
Taking fourth was Phillip Emery with a limit totaling 8.6lbs. Taking 5th was
James Apathy with another limit of 8.5lbs. In 6th place was Justin Carpenter with 7.1lbs,
which included a bass of 4.90lbs, the 2nd big fish of the day. This gave Justin big fish
cash of $110. Down in 8th place was Eric Havercroft with 6.2 lbs, one of which was a
the 3rd big fish of 4.70 lbs, which gave him $75.

We had Mike Iljin and Marcia Thompson of Castaic Bass Club and Mike Jones and Dave
Baltes of FOCL (thanks for the donuts Dave)! .On the water in Staff Boats we had
various members of the Bass Club and FOCL, Including Karl Kratzer, Ernie Kost,
Larry Wild, John Chapman, Steve Cook, Mark O'Borsky, Howard Gross, and Grant
Powell. Thanks to Lori and Tina from the lake staff for their assistance with the event.
and the most famous guy after the derby was Pete Carrasosa, who cooked up a ton of
chili dogs for the hungry fishermen. A big thanks to Pete and fellow FOCL member Flo
Lawrence for coordinating on buying the food.
